Tell us a bit about your background and your journey in the fashion industry.
I’ve been working in the fashion industry for many years, starting in design and production. Over time, I learned more about managing the full process, from concept to delivery. This role at Femme Connection allows me to use all of that experience. I really enjoy the variety it offers.
What is your role at Femme Connection
My role here involves overseeing design and product development. Working closely with our suppliers and manufacturers to ensure that everything we produce is to a high standard. I also like getting involved with visual merchandising, which I really enjoy as I can see how our pieces fit into the bigger picture on the shop floor, in photo shoots, and online. It's a dream come true, really.
You’ve worked in both big corporate and small team settings. How does working at Femme Connection compare to your previous experiences?
Working here is a completely different vibe compared to my time at other companies. In a small team like ours, there's a real sense of collaboration. Everyone pitches in and helps out, no matter what the task is whether it's helping to move boxes or steaming a dress. The culture here is one of mutual respect and support. We all wear many hats, and I love that. There's no “this is my job, that’s yours” mentality. We all help each other. It’s refreshing to work in a place where we all get along, and no one feels like they’re above anything else.
You’ve mentioned how important company culture is to you. Can you tell us more about that?
Absolutely. I believe that the culture in any workplace is key to how successful and enjoyable it is to be there. When I first joined Femme Connection, I immediately noticed how everyone was treated equally, regardless of title. It's about building a supportive environment where everyone contributes in their own way.
What do you love most about the fashion industry?
I love that fashion is about more than just clothes. It's about creativity, storytelling, and expressing yourself through what you wear. I also really enjoy the process, seeing an idea take shape from a sketch to a finished product, and then seeing it worn by someone out. That connection between creator and wearer is really powerful. The industry is constantly changing, and it's exciting to be a part of that evolution. I get a thrill every time I see something from our collection out there, whether it’s worn by someone at an event or featured in a magazine.
Can you share a memorable moment from your career?
There have been so many moments, but one that really stands out was when a white dress we had developed was chosen by someone to wear as a wedding dress. It wasn’t originally designed as a wedding gown, but the way it was styled for that special day was just amazing. To see our dress featured in such a meaningful moment, especially when it was used for someone’s wedding, was surreal. I was so impressed and proud that someone chose a Femme Connection dress for such an important occasion. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful fashion can be. It made all the hard work behind the design process feel so worth it. Moments like this really show the impact of what we do and why I’m passionate about it.
How do you handle challenges, especially when things go wrong?
Challenges are part of the job, especially in fashion where so much can change at the last minute. If something goes wrong, I try not to panic. A lot of the time, it's just a minor issue, like a garment being slightly too short or long, which can be easily fixed with a few adjustments. The key is to communicate early and keep everyone in the loop. With the right mindset, there’s almost always a solution, and I’ve learned not to get too stressed. Our clients and buyers are usually very understanding. It’s all about being organized and prepared, which is crucial, especially around opening season.
What are some of the current fashion trends you're loving right now?
I’m loving the suede trend right now, it’s making a big comeback, and it’s one of my favourite materials. I’m also really into feminine, flowy dresses, with lots of lace and ruffles. These pieces just feel so soft and romantic. For me, fashion should always feel special, so these kinds of materials and designs are what I’m really drawn to this season.
What are your wardrobe staples?
I’m a big fan of a simple, classic wardrobe. My staples are a white t-shirt, a black dress, a blazer, and of course, a well fitted pair of jeans that can be dressed up or down. A good pair of jeans is a must-have! I also love a versatile cardigan or coat that can be thrown over anything to instantly elevate a look. It’s all about mixing and matching, pieces that you can wear every day but still feel stylish.
What’s next for you and Femme Connection?
I’m excited about what’s coming next. We have some really exciting new collections in the pipeline, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build our brand and collaborate with new talent. We’ve got some fun projects ahead, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone. Personally, I’m also focusing on learning and growing, whether it's through travel, new design techniques, or connecting with other creative minds.
