Knitwear 2025 - What’s Trending?

We just can’t do without women’s knitwear in Australia during the winter months. Whether it’s a knit dress, knit jumper, knit cardigan or knitted accessories like scarves, knit fabrics keep us warm and offer plenty of comfort due to their inherent stretch. They are indispensable garments!

In 2025, you’ll notice trending women’s knitwear you’ll absolutely yearn for—especially if you’re feeling chilly! Whether it’s cable knit jumpers, textured cardigans or figure-hugging knit dresses, your cold fingers will most certainly tap away on your laptop or phone to search online for great knitwear.

The trends in knitwear for 2025 aren’t exactly groundbreaking (no need to buy any knit bikinis!). Instead, there’s a focus on practical, durable knits that look and feel sumptuously warm and cosy.

Let’s dive into what knitwear trends you’re gonna see this winter!

Knit coatigans: Trending last year, coatigans are still in high demand in ‘25. This hybrid of cardigan and coat can be worn as an outer layer for casual outings, and will keep you cosy around the house or in relaxed workplaces or co-work spaces. Coatigans add that little bit of extra warmth to the shoulders, without feeling bulky, and draped over the shoulders, give off relaxed, arty vibes.

Coatigans mostly reach to the mid-thigh or to the knee, yet some are even longer. You can belt them or leave them hanging loose.

Wool blend knits: Pure wool knitwear is great, but with the cost of living in 2025, many of us can’t afford it. That’s why wool blends are super popular right now. They make wool that little bit more accessible by blending it with more budget-friendly fibres, like recycled polyester, acrylic and elastane (or combinations of all). The good thing about these wool blends is that they’re a little less prone to shrinking than straight out wool garments. They also come in a wider range of designs and colours. What’s not to love?

Knit dresses: Knit dresses are looking popular this year. Whether it be fit-and-flare knit dresses, fitted bodycon knit dresses, or wrap-style knit dresses, these flattering dresses are most-certainly on trend.

The great thing about the knit dress is that it feels like you’re wearing a jumper all over. Not only does your torso stay warm, but so does your lower half, and who doesn’t appreciate that? So if you want to be toasty all the way to your knees, grab a knit dress in 2025!

Long cardigans: Long knit cardigans for women are trending, and along the same lines as the knit dress, they will keep both the upper and lower half of your body warm. Whether you are rocking a cable knit, jacquard knit, or solid knit long cardigan, they’re all set to trend this winter.

Then for spring summer, knit cardigans are predicted to be popular companions to casual summer outfits— look out for lighter-weight knit fabrics rather than heavy, winter knits.

Textured knits: Textured knits are in this year. Particularly popular are chunky cable knits, whether it be knit tops with cable knit segments, or knit jumpers for women with all-over cable knit.

Other trending textures include honeycomb textured knits and embellished knits with interesting features added to the knit, like knitted flowers. Basically, any unique feature that makes your knit garment a talking point is instantly trendy.

Patterned knits: Fashion lovers are swinging toward knits with eye-catching patterns this year. Jacquard knits, check knits, fleck knits and diamond patterns are all the rage. Stripes, (particularly horizontal) are also very popular.

We’re seeing these colourful patterns on all sorts of knit garments in 2025, including cardigans, jumpers, knit dresses and knit scarves.

Solid-colour knits: Whilst we just talked about patterned knits being all the rage, let’s not forget that solid-colour women’s knitwear will also be a favoured choice this year, especially when styled well. Solid neutral knits (white, black, grey, beige, brown, navy, olive green and cream) will always look chic when paired with pants, skirts or outerwear in similar neutral colours.

Bright solid-colour knits (red, burgundy, sunshine yellow, cobalt blue, emerald green, zesty orange) add a bold pop of colour to an outfit. You’ll see them as the hero of the outfit, or mixed with other bright colours for a multi-colour extravaganza.

Oversized knit jumpers: This ‘big jumper’ look appears to be a fashion fixture. The oversized knit jumper always looks good on its own over slim-fit pants and winter boots, or layered with a winter coat or jacket. Trending at the moment are oversized knit jumpers in solid colours, (both neutral and bold hues are in). Cable knit oversized jumpers are also in vogue.

Crew neck cardigans: This classic style of knit cardigans for women is très chic right now, which is useful, because cardigans are such a handy garment to have. Cardigans are warm, they work well with a range of outfits, and look perfectly at home in a range of settings. You can totally wear a cardigan in the workplace, but also keep it on hand for casual outings. It makes for a great mid-to-outer layer in winter, and is also useful to keep in your bag in spring and summer, for cool weather moments.

Whilst V-neck cardigans are always popular, crew necks are having their time in the sun at the moment, so get yours!

High necklines: High-neck knit jumpers are always a key item in winter, as they do away with the need for a scarf. This year, the necklines are relaxed, with cowl necklines being popular. This makes for a warm neck, without the feeling of your collar being tight.

Check scarves: Scarves are always a winter essential, but check knit scarves are particularly fashionable in 2025. Woolly-looking check scarves in vibrant colours can bring your autumn and winter outfits to life, especially if you want to add a pop or two of colour to an otherwise neutral outfit.
